THESIS STATEMENT
The Irish Potato Famine, which endured through the late 1880's, was the lowest point in its economical structure. The Irish's primary crop, the potato, became infected by the virus known as "curl". The infection started a widespread epidemic of starvation and disease. Thousands of innocent citizens died of illness and hunger. However, the catastrophe led to the start of a revolution in the medical field and the discoveries of cures to illnesses.
